Buffalo River Fall Photography
Beginner/Intermediate Workshop

Dates: October 24-26, 2026

Location: Upper Buffalo River Wilderness Area, centered near Ponca, Arkansas.

Max. Participants: 4

Cost: $715/person. Includes lodging and meals.

I grew up sleeping under tarps and whittling sticks in the Buffalo National River wilderness. It’s one of the last places in Arkansas where time still seems to move a bit more slowly for me. In autumn, the towering bluffs, winding river bends, and hardwood forests glow with color while cool mornings bring mist drifting through the valleys. This small-group, intimate, hands-on workshop is an opportunity to experience and photograph one of America's most beautiful river landscapes during its most photogenic season with an Ozark native and professional photographer.

Together, we'll explore overlooks, trails, riverbanks, and hidden corners of the Buffalo watershed during the best light of the day, and have fun while we do it. We’ll experience how to move beyond simply documenting a scene and create images that communicate a sense of place. Topics may include composition, working with changing — or just plain “bad” — weather and light, finding visual stories in the landscape and tying images together, and developing a more intentional approach to nature photography.

This workshop is designed for photographers who already feel comfortable with the basics of their camera and want to strengthen their creative vision in the field. With a limited group size, we’ll have time for one-on-one instruction, exploration without heavy impact on our surroundings, and My goal is simple: to help participants create stronger images while deepening their appreciation for the natural world and the landscapes we are fortunate to call home.
